Summary
This article argues that the theologian Joseph Ratzinger makes a substantial contribution to the ongoing discussion concerning the sources of theology (loci theologiae). However, in contrast to Melchior Cano’s famous list, used to butress arguments, the pairs of terms which Ratzinger presents highlight the sources for Christian discipleship in the particular form of a Catholic theologian. Therefore, Ratzinger’s list is more relevant on the existential plane than on the intellectual one.
