Il mestiere d’architetti attiene al costruire le cose che caratterizzano i luoghi in modo tale che chi vi abita possa “rimanere” in uno stato di grazia, anche in silenzio, per sperimentare la bellezza dell’abitare in rapporto alla natura e alla storia. Per questo occorre progettare in dialogo tra il popolo di Dio e il mondo; un dialogo che implichi l’arte del celebrare e del costruire. Lo spazio deve tornare a essere adeguato al rito. Se il confessionale s’inserisce in questa logica occorre incominciare a dilatarlo perché possa accogliere il penitente e fargli gustare la presenza di Dio.

Redesigning the place for the sacrament of Penance

The profession of architects is to build things that characterize the places so that those who live there can “remain” in a state of grace, even in silence, and experience the beauty of living in relation to nature and history. Therefore the planning must be done in dialogue between the people of God and the world; it is a dialogue that involves the art of celebrating and building. The space must again become adequate to the rite. If the confessional is part of this logic we should begin to enlarge it, so that it can be a welcoming place for the penitent and let him enjoy the presence of God.
