In Terra Santa, la rievocazione dell’editto di Milano è un’occasione per far memoria di quell’evento che consentì ai cristiani di uscire dalle catacombe. Purtroppo ancor oggi la questione della libertà di culto e religione non è stata risolta in molte parti del mondo. In particolare, la vita di un cristiano in Medio Oriente non è mai stata facile e, probabilmente, non lo sarà neppure nel futuro. Le istituzioni, la Chiesa, le famiglie stanno vivendo un tempo di grande travaglio. Le limitazioni nel diritto fondamentale di professare la propria religione producono discriminazione nel campo del lavoro e provocano l’abbandono della propria terra d’origine. La Chiesa Madre di Gerusalemme diventa ogni giorno più povera e fragile. La possibilità di scegliere e praticare una fede non deve essere solo prevista nelle costituzioni o nelle leggi, ma deve tradursi in sicurezza concreta per le comunità religiose minoritarie.

Recalling the Milan Edict in Holy Land is an opportunity for keep alive the memory of the event that permitted to Christians their exit from catacombs. Unfortunately, today the question of the freedom of worship is still unresolved in many parts of the world. Particularly in the Middle East, the life of Christina people has never been easy and probably shall not be easy either in the future. Institutions, the Catholic Church, the families are living a time of great labour. The limitations of the fundamental right to profess one’s own religion produce discrimination in the field of work and compel people to leave their country of origin. The Mother Church of Jerusalem is getting every day poorer and weaker. The possibility of choosing and practicing one’s faith must not only be assured by constitutions or laws, but also must to be traduced in a concrete safety for the religious minority communities.
